Eyewear congratulates this year's Eric Gregory winners Niall Campbell, Tom Chivers, Holly Hopkins, Martin Jackson and Kim Moore. Also, bravo to Laura Barton for her win of the Betty Trask award. Also, good to see Lachlan Mackinnon winning a Cholmondeley.
pedestrian, boring, unoriginal, no fantastical use of language or style; topic's dull - your average nowadays poetry flam. none of the above are any big shakes; completely mediocre and this only encourages them. they may be deemed 'poets' by Eric, but they can't ‘write’ for soup. remove risk, and all your left with is insipid appropriated drivel: this is not their fault. they know no better.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - are you sure?
ReplyDeleteanonymous, given that 1. you've hidden - like a coward - behind anonymity, 2. your judgement on poets whose wildly disparate (and good) work can be found online is lumped together (suggesting that your real issue is a sense of self-loathing), 3. you've included me in that judgement even though my own work cannot be found online – meaning you've never actually read any of my "pedestrian, boring, unoriginal" poems - given all of this, and even though or possibly even because i "know no better", i would like to extend an invite to you for the reading at the betsey trotwood this evening (weds 15th). if not for all the winners to prove you wrong, then at least for me to break your nose.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the winners. I'm glad to see Tom Chivers up there. I made it to the final 35 of the 2009 Eric Gregory awards, am pleased that so many fine voices are getting the recognition they deserve.
