Camarade VI: The Enemies Project

S.J. Fowler masterminded another huge mash-up of poetic talent in the hip heart of London's East End last night, here is what he sent out today as announcement... I’m very happy the Enemies project could begin in such an atmosphere of pluralism and ingenuity, and that everyone is so enthusiastic about the project. Legion , won the Forward Prize for best collection 2005 and was shortlisted for both the Whitbread Award and the T.S. Eliot Prize. His Selected Poems, published in June 2007, was shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize. A new collection— Night —was published in January 2011. It is the Poetry Book Society Choice for the Spring, and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize, the Costa Poetry Prize and the T.S. Eliot Award. He is currently working on English versions of poems by Yannis Ritsos. Harsent’s collaborations with composers, most often with Harrison Birtwistle, have been performed widely. May 16 in Bloomsbury: A Major Night for Young British Poets!

A message from Martin Penny, of Oxfam: We would be pleased if you could join us on Wednesday May 16th 7-10 pm, for a celebration of the launch of Lung Jazz , an anthology of young British poets, from Cinnamon and Eyewear presses. All proceeds from the sales go directly to Oxfam. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided. With special guest poets, Nia Davies, Alistair Noon, Edward Mackay, Andrew Frolish. Alistair Noon  was born in 1970 and grew up in Aylesbury. Besides time spent in Russia and China, he has lived in Berlin since the early nineties, where he works as a translator. His poetry and translations from German and Russian have appeared in nine chapbooks from small presses. Earth Records is his first full-length collection. Andrew Frolish was born in Sheffield in 1975.  After studying politics at Lancaster University, he trained to be a teacher in the Lake District.  His poems have been published in a variety of magazines, including PN Review, Acumen, Envoi, Tears in the Fence...

Crypto Poetic

The next Poetry in the Crypt will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday May 26th in the crypt under St Mary's Church, on Upper Street, Islington. The evening will feature Kingston University's Emerging Poet in Residence, Liz Berry , an exciting new voice from Canada, Jenna Butler, (whose previous invitation to the crypt was thwarted by the Icelandic ash cloud), and Poetry in the Crypt host Nancy Mattson reading from her brand new collection Finns and Amazons. More details of all these excellent readers can be found on the attached flier. As always, there will also be floor spots, free tea, coffee and cake at the interval and an excellent bookstall. All proceeds will go to Hospice Care Kenya.
