Smoking is bad for you; poetry is good for you.  Balances out? Eyewear is very pleased, thrilled, even, to share with you a few poems by an American poet who we adore, and not just because she wears the coolest glasses ever. She is one of the most provocative and promising of poets we've come across lately. Lisa Marie Basile (pictured) comes from the bloodline of Giambattista Basile, the Italian fairy-tale writer. She is a graduate of The New School’s MFA program for creative writing in NYC. The author of  Andalucia  (The Poetry Society of New York) and  Triste  (Dancing Girl Press), her newest chapbook,  war/lock,  is out from Hyacinth Girl Press in 2014. Britain's acclaimed architect expert, critic, bon vivant, wit, and writer, Charles Knevitt , is coming to New York for two one-man shows - LE CORBUSIER'S WOMEN - at the famous Bowery Poetry club, soon, to do a reading of his play on the life of great modernist Le Corbusier . The play is sexy, scandalous, informative, and fun, and it is recommended by Eyewear , not least because Knevitt wears Le Corbusier glasses. There will be two performances at Bowery, both on Sunday, September 22nd. The Le Corbusier exhibition at MoMA closes the following day, Monday 23rd. It claims 4,000 visitors a day. ( The) Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been a favourite of Eyewear 's since at least spring 2006, when, three years ago, they launched their second full album, Show Your Bones . It was one of the best of that year. Now here they are, seeing out this decade of boom and bust with an electro-punk work - Britishly-titled, It's Blitz! - that joyously combines the best of late Blondie , Bow Wow Wow , Siouxsie and the Banshees , and, now and then, OMD - which is to say, it's a pop-disco-new wave mix - not a million miles from the sort of Goldfrapp stuff on their middle albums. What's not to like? Well, Adorno fans will slink away from the dancefloor immediately - this is not art, it is brutally entertaining diversion. Of course, bands have been mining the 80s for most of the 00s, so nothing here seems like an entirely new move - but Karen O is on form, and, in almost every song, improves on her trademark New Yoik yearning vocals.
