Sad news. Jane Russell has died. She was one of the Howard Hughes finds - notable for her decolletage - but managed to elude his grasp long enough to make a few dozen films, including the classic Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, with Marilyn Monroe. A self-confessed religious "bigot" in later years, her Bible Belt ways sat oddly with her earlier "Playtex" bra promotions and sex-bomb image - but heralded a genuine swing to the right. She did much to help people adopt children, having done so herself three times, facing challenges in the process.
